This is a new experience for Cross of Christ! More than likely questions will arise - like . . . how did we become partnered, why did we choose to take on this project, and what are our responsibilities to Ikungi Lutheran Church.
The first question "how" is answered simply . We applied and we were accepted.
"Why" falls into the "stewardship" category and our being a community of faith. We are faced with many "Global Challenges" today and living in Houston (removed from some of the life stresses that others face) might make us complacent and inactive in trying to face some of these challenges. Hopefully, connecting with this 370 member congregation in Tanzania will give us a sense of reality.
Our responsibilitiy to Ikungi Lutheran Church is not money. It includes the following:

Pray for Ikungi and its members regularly, ideally every week.

Become familiar with Ikungi and give information regularly.

Get pictures and names and share with congregation.

Write a letter describing Houston/Cross of Christ.

Write letters describing our Sunday School, W/ELCA, circles, craft club, LYO, choirs, bell choirs, etc.

Plan a common worship service or special day to recognize and celebrate the partnership.

Raise funds for scholarships to send Ikungi students to Lutheran schools or Bible Institutes in Tanzania.

Work towards eventual exchange visits.
